At RYK Yoga & Meditation Center, we believe that spirituality is more than what happens on the yoga mat or cushion. It’s how we live, how we serve, and how we show up for others with presence and humility. Recently, our community had the beautiful opportunity to embody this truth through seva—selfless service—at our local Gurdwara.
For those unfamiliar, a Gurdwara is more than a Sikh temple. It is a place of devotion, equality, and service—where everyone is welcome, regardless of background, belief, or status. Shoes come off, heads are covered, and hearts open. People from all walks of life sit together, chant together, and share a meal—together.
At the center of this experience is Langar, the sacred offering of free food to all who enter. Rooted in the teachings of Guru Nanak, Langar is a spiritual practice—nourishing others without expectation. It is the embodiment of karma yoga, humility, and community-based meditation in action.
From the Studio to the Kitchen: RYK’s Day of Seva

Our Kundalini yoga students came together to sponsor, prepare, and serve the Sunday Langar at the Las Vegas Gurdwara. The experience was both simple and profound. Ingredients were purchased by our community, meals were cooked with love, and food was served not for profit or recognition, but as a sacred act of offering.
There were no levels, no separations—just human beings cooking, praying, laughing, and feeding one another. It was yoga off the mat. It was meditation through service. It was what the yogic path teaches us: we are all one.
Why Seva Matters on the Spiritual Path
In the practice of Kundalini yoga, seva is essential. It softens the ego, purifies the heart, and aligns us with the flow of universal energy. It reminds us that our spiritual growth isn’t just about personal evolution—it’s about how we show up for the world around us.
To roll dough for chapatis, to stir a pot of dal, to wash dishes after 200 people have eaten—these are not chores. These are acts of devotion. They’re reminders that to serve others is to recognize the Divine within them.
Everyone Is Welcome
You don’t need to be Sikh to visit a Gurdwara or join in seva. You can attend the Sunday kirtan (devotional singing), offer a prayer, or simply share a meal. And if you feel called to help—there is always room in the kitchen.
Whether you’re on a journey of meditation, seeking deeper connection through spirituality, or exploring the teachings of Kundalini yoga, acts of selfless service like this ground the practice in the real world.

Join Our Community in Practice—On and Off the Mat
At RYK Yoga & Meditation Center, we teach that the true essence of yoga lives not just in the poses, but in how we live. Whether it’s through breathwork, silence, mantra, or a shared meal—we aim to cultivate a community where practice becomes life, and life becomes practice.
