For 40 days, beginning January 9, our students were challenged to come to at least one class a day for the entire 40 days. In a previous post we talked about why we offered that challenge and what benefits they could see as a result of completing the challenge. Ten strong yogis completed the task and made it all the way to the end! All of them had wonderful things to say about personal transformations that took place, however two shared their testimonial with us in writing, so that we may share it with you.
“It was a last minute decision; however, I am so thankful that I committed to doing the 40-day challenge! It really hasn’t been a challenge at all – except for having to rearrange my schedule at times to attend a class. It’s actually something that I look forward to each and every day. I feel my participation in the challenge has helped me tremendously in so many ways:
- making better food choices
- having more energy and requiring less sleep
- dealing better with things/situations, especially during stressful times
- finding inner peace
- having a positive attitude
- feeling an attitude of gratitude
- being more sensitive of others
During this time, I have also had the opportunity to get to know some of the “40 day challengers” and others in the community. Everyone has been so nice and supportive! It is a wonderful feeling to be part of something you enjoy and believe in and to have others around you that feel the same way! My plan is to continue attending meditation and yoga classes as often as I can in order to build on what I’ve accomplished so far.”

“I first started attending classes at RYK in mid-December when a family member recommended that they might help me deal with some mental health issues I had exacerbated over the last 6 years of my career, and so when I started the 40 day challenge in January, it seemed like a good way to commit to helping myself heal.
The benefits of a clear mind and calmer spirit were immediately apparent after the first class of the challenge, and each successive class instilled in me a new set of tools to deal with my health issues. And not only did I gain a new self-awareness regarding how to better take care of myself, I found myself more easily letting go of habits that were either harmful or not as beneficial to me. But more importantly, while I had practiced deep breathing and meditation over the years as a sort of last resort, the 40 day challenge helped me to develop these practices as a way of being. I had first come to meditation as a child through sports and the martial arts, but I have benefited tremendously over the past several months at RYK under the guidance of experienced practitioners and teachers.
The challenge was a way to build a new habit and it worked. Even though it ended, I haven’t stopped. Every morning when I wake up, I go through a short yoga and meditation routine to help me get ready for the day, and when I sit down to work, I first do several minutes of Pranayama breathing to clear my mind and establish my focus. And at the end of the day, instead of letting my racing thoughts interfere with my ability to fall asleep, I meditate to enter a relaxed state to better allow me to enter sleep more peacefully.
Through the 40 day challenge I found a healthy and proven way to take back ownership of my mind and my life, and I am forever thankful for the staff at RYK and the Kundalini teachings.”
