Spring Allergies

According to Ayurveda allergies are an overreaction of the body’s immune system to specific substances that are misidentified as harmful. Allergic reactions manifest themselves in the form of commonly seen skin and respiratory disorders such as eczema, hives, hay fever, asthma and food allergies.

Ayurveda regards allergy as a disorder caused by impaired digestion; this dysfunction in the digestive process is the cause of the hypersensitivity to certain substances, such as dust and pollen that triggers the allergic attacks. Deposits of ama (toxins in the form of mucus) in the lungs and respiratory tract create obstruction in breathing and cause wheezing, coughing or sneezing.

Diet & Lifestyle

  • Use a Neti Pot to clean the nasal passage
  • Use Nasya Oil to lubricate the mucus membrane
  • Use Triphala powder to detox and tone
  • Drink warm water or herbal teas throughout the day
  • Avoid dairy products and cold foods
  • Practice Yoga, Meditation and breathing exercises
  • Use ginger, cinnamon, turmeric and black pepper

Ayurveda recommends the long-term boosting of your immunity system to find a permanent fix for this condition.
